Unique carpets from production surplus materials

Tina Wendler and fashion and textile designer Lara Wernert launched carpet manufacturer 13RUGS in summer 2015. The company combines selvages from ROHI’s fabric production to make unique carpets with intricate craftsmanship. A multi-phase felting process transforms premium production surplus materials into textile art works for floors and walls. The woollen carpets fascinate with their individual look and cosy feel, their colour progressions and unusual structures.

From selvage to art work

The development of the multi-phase production process for the 13RUGS woollen carpets is a fascinating pioneering achievement. Lara Wernert experimented with selvages from ROHI for her Master’s thesis. After several months of intensive product development, Lara Wernert and Tina Wendler finally succeeded in optimising the production process and creating an innovative textile product.

Commitment to regional products and sustainability

From the source material to the end product, 13RUGS carpets are produced exclusively in Germany. They stand out not only thanks to the innovative manufacturing process, but also with their regional production. This contrasts with most of the carpet industry, as most companies produce abroad. This vision of sustainability impacts the entire production process, and is also expressed in upcycling selvages from ROHI’s fabric production processes to new textile products.

Naturally renewable raw materials

13RUGS carpets are made from selvages of ROHI woollen fabrics. The many tangible, functional and ecological qualities of wool as a natural renewable material make it a lasting and high-quality companion. The pure new wool used by ROHI is naturally hard-wearing and flame-resistant, easy to care for and stain-resistant. The particularly soft touch gives the carpets a fascinating tactile sensation.

The foundation of the unique quality is the years of experience with wool, a high-tech fibre.

Tied to the ROHI woollen mill

Wool is the material on which the strong relationship between carpet maker 13RUGS and the ROHI family company is based. Founded in 1933, ROHI woollen mill is one of the world’s leading providers of woollen seat upholstery fabrics. The unique quality is based on years of experience with wool, a high-tech fibre. ROHI uses only the best quality wool, the ‘filet mignon of wool’, so-to-speak. State-of-the-art production processes are used to create upholstery fabrics that meet the high standards in the various application areas.
